DRIVING IN THE DARK

I came across this quote today:

"Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way."
E.L. Doctorow

It perfectly describes my writing process at the moment. I thought I had a plan, instead I'm finding I have a destination and I'm driving there in the dark. And I have to say that the full-beam function on my literary car is behaving erratically.

I'm moving along - well under the speed limit - from scene to scene. Every hill and corner discovered moments before I approach them.

Is it scary? You betcha!

Am I enjoying myself? Yes!

How's your writing going at the moment?

  1. That's how I got through mine! Having a deadline did help me bust a move and get it done, but it was also scary. And, I wrote some crap in there. Luckily I gave myself enough time to spot it and address it. I still stand by the quote that I am not a very good writer, but I am a very good re-writer, and an even better re-re-writer.
Plans are great, but I think there is a place for blind writing before setting the plan in stone. We all have to work out our own way.
Good luck. Persistence is key. Another favourite quote of mine comes from a Cliff Richard song (actually, the whole song is full of great quotes): "If you wanna win, you don't give in; you give a little bit more."
So do it! Give it all you got!

Writing is not going at all because I have been on holiday and now my sister from Dubai, off to China in a week, is staying here till Thursday! I am enjoying myself but damn it, I miss my writing!!! I've been sneaking onto the computer posting and leaving comments, but I've just been caught out!! LOL
